SETUP, ECO FILTER, AND TROUBLESHOOTING
WHY ISN’T MY NITRO COLD BREW COFFEE CREAMY?
There are four key factors that directly affect the creaminess of your nitro coffee:
1) Equipment: ensure you are using equipment that infuses nitrogen into your cold brew at the right temperature. All BROOD machines are expertly engineered with advanced cooling technology to flash chill beverages down to a crisp 2°C and ensure consistent creaminess in every cup.
2) Water quality: the water you use should have a high concentration of Calcium—we suggest anything over 50 ppm.
3) Proper filtration: poorly filtered cold brew will lower the creaminess of your nitro coffee or nitro-infused beverage. We recommend double or triple-filtering your cold brew for best results. Our ECO Filter is another great option that can filter your cold brew down to 2 microns within minutes.
4) Type of coffee bean: for nitro cold brew coffee, opt for a medium roast bean. Oilier varieties will negatively impact the creaminess of your nitro cold brew beverage.

HOW LONG DOES COLD BREW COFFEE NEED TO STEEP?
In short, there is no industry standard for how long you should steep your cold brew coffee. However, there are many elements to consider: coffee grind, coffee roast levels, room ambiance and temperature, water composition, and the system use to steep the coffee all play a role. We recommend steeping coffee for 12-24 hours and steeping tea for no more than 12 hours.
I JUST RECEIVED MY ECO FILTER. HOW DO I SET IT UP?
Ultra-filtering your cold brew has never been easier! Click here to watch our instructional video with step-by-step instructions on how to set up your Eco Filter.
THE DRIP TRAY IS FILLING UP VERY QUICKLY. IS THIS NORMAL?
If your drip tray fills up quickly it means that the metal plate isn’t tightened sufficiently. Alternatively, if your drip tray doesn’t drip at all, it means that the filter pads might be cracked, and the coffee is running through without being filtered. A few drops into the drip tray every few seconds is ideal.
HOW MANY LITRES CAN I FILL WITH ONE SET OF FILTER PADS?
One set of three filter pads can accommodate a 20-litre batch of cold brew coffee. However, it also depends on how filtered the coffee is to begin with. It’s always best to strain the coffee first to remove all suspended solids. ECO Filters are designed as a secondary filtration process to bring the coffee down to 2 microns which adds clarity, polish, and a more robust taste to every cup.
COFFEE IS SPRAYING UPWARDS FROM THE FILTER PAD. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
If you see coffee spraying upwards from the filter pad, this means one of two things: the filter pads have not been aligned correctly, or the filter pads are completely blocked from coffee particles and need to be changed.
HOW DO I PREVENT THE DRIP TRAY FROM OVERFLOWING?
To prevent overflowing, ensure the machine is elevated so the drip tray can empty easily. You can either arrange the drip tray tube to lead back into the unfiltered coffee or you can set it up so it drains into a waste bottle.
UNFILTERED COFFEE IS FLOWING INTO MY PRE-FILTER, BUT NOT OUT OF IT. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
If you notice unfiltered coffee flowing into your Pre-Filter, this means that your Pre-Filter is blocked and needs to be cleaned. Unscrew the top part of the filter and rinse it thoroughly. Make sure to remove any build-up that is causing the blockage.
HOW DEEP SHOULD I DROP THE INTAKE TUBE?
If you neglect to use the pre-screen filter, then you run the risk of blocking the filter pads quickly. In this scenario, it’s recommended to keep the intake tube at the surface and away from suspended solids that are falling to the base of the container. Move the intake tube down as the level of unfiltered coffee decreases. This way you can avoid intake of bigger particles that can block your filters. Every ECO Filter comes with a pre-screen filter and we strongly recommend using it every time for optimal results.
